Town of Ophir

Located south of the Telluride Ski Resort, the historic town of Ophir was the site of the world's first commercial system to generate and transmit alternating current at the Ames Hydroelectric Generating Plant. Recently Ophir has become a popular place for Telluride locals and second homeowners looking to live in a very quiet hamlet, split into two neighborhoods, the older West Ophir, where many turn of the 20th century homes were built and East Ophir where many newer homes are located. In the summer the Ophir Pass 4-wheel drive road enables a spectacular high mountain drive and close proximity to Highway 550 and the town of Silverton.
